Depot Days
Saturday, September 27, 2008
Newport’s only annual citywide festival is not just another local picnic. It is a musical tribute to the roadhouse rock-and-roll, which sprang from the nightclubs lining Highway 67 in Jackson County in the 1950s and 60s. Sun recording artists and area residents Sonny Burgess and Billy Lee Riley are regular attractions among many other regional and national recording stars. For rock-a-billy purists, it doesn’t get any better than this.
Depot Days is held annually at the 1902 Iron Mountain Depot in downtown Newport. Restored through the efforts of local citizens and grant funding in 1998, the Depot serves as the focal point of this free festival.
Depot Days includes the Lions Club Auction, Jackson County's Best Backyard BBQ Contest, arts & crafts vendors, kids inflatables, trackless train rides, free magic shows great food and live entertainment.
